I returned to the Central Valley after graduating from law school in 1987. I lived in Fresno as a child. My father was an attorney and practiced here until the mid 70’s.
I began my career as an insurance defense attorney. I handled cases involving car accidents(minor fender benders to fatalities such as the I-5 dust storm); dog bites; crop losses; products liability and investigated fraud cases. I have worked in counties from Bakersfield to Yuba City; San Luis Obispo across to Mono County.
My largest and most complex case involved a large series of accidents on I-5 during a heavy a dust storm near Thanksgiving a number of years ago. I opposed some of the finest plaintiff’s attorneys in the State of California and was able to resolve all 34 of the cases filed against the land owner well under CalFarms anticipated cost.
In September 1996 I had the opportunity to start my own business. I have since limited my practice to Family Law so I can concentrate my knowledge and expertise in one area. I believed I could help people through a difficult time. I wanted to be a positive force in a negative situation. In each case it is my hope and goal to leave people in the best possible situation considering the circumstances. I work towards a reasonable compromise and resolution. If the matter escalates I will represent my client as aggressively as the circumstances warrant.
I have completed training in Mediation and Collaborative Law. I also have the training required to represent minor children in high conflict cases.
Since 1996 I have acted as a Settlement Conference Judge, Arbitrator, Mediator and Judge Pro Tem for the Fresno County Superior Court. For a number of years I was a Judge Pro Tem at least one day per month. My regular monthly calendar involved Domestic Violence cases with mostly pro per litigants.
I have taught in the Paralegal Program at Fresno City College. A few of my students have gone on to become attorneys.
Outside the legal profession my passions vary and my obsession surrounds my four horses. I have a great love for animals. I believe that education and caring for animals is very important.
I am a Search and Rescue Volunteer with the Madera County Sheriff’s Department. I will mainly assist with searches on foot and with the mounted unit. My grandfather was a part of the Kings County Sheriff’s Posse and the Napa Sheriff’s Posse. I am proud to follow in his footsteps.
