Spousal support is where one party pays the other to help them after separation and divorce. There are two parts to spousal support, temporary and permanent. Temporary lasts from the first order until the Judgment is entered. After the Judgment the order is called permanent. Temporary and permanent spousal support are calculate differently. Temporary can be calculated utilizing the DissoMaster program. Temporary spousal support is to help each party continue to live as close to the standard of living they had during the marriage as possible. Permanent spousal support is set after the court considers a number of factors set forth in the family code.
The amount and length of time spousal support is paid is determined on a case by case basis.
